What Exactly is a "HiWi" Job?
"HiWi" (pronounced hee-vee) is short for Hilfswissenschaftler, which translates to "student assistant" or "research assistant." These are official, on-campus part-time jobs where you work directly for your university. You might be helping a professor with research, assisting in a lab, managing a library section, or even tutoring younger students.
Unlike a regular off-campus job, a HiWi position integrates you directly into the academic fabric of your university.

Look at Department Notice Boards: The old-fashioned method still works! Many positions are advertised on physical notice boards outside professors' offices or in the main department building.
Proactively Contact Professors: This is the most effective method. Identify a professor whose research interests you. Read a few of their papers and send a polite, professional email. Introduce yourself, express your interest in their work, attach your CV, and ask if they have any open HiWi positions.
